Greg Gunter authored children’s inspirational plays that toured to over 500,000 people in ten states. He developed story, character, heart & soul for theater productions including the workshop version of Jonathan Larson’s musical RENT as well as hundreds of plays & musicals. Greg taught playwriting, screenwriting & story development at University of California San Diego & at Harvard University.
At Walt Disney’s Feature Animation, Greg wrote one hundred eighty treatments & approaches for various Disney stories, including some Ol’ Walt himself had not finished! He developed the characters, comedy & aspects of the stories (collaborating with directors, screenwriters, & story board artists) for Toy Story 2, A Bug’s Life, Emperor’s New Groove, Disney’s Tarzan, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., The Tigger Movie, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Lilo & Stitch, Mulan, Dinosaur as well as many other animated films.
Hired away from animation by Walt Disney Global Entertainment, he developed numerous live shows including a stage version of Disney’s Aladdin still running today at Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater as well as new shows, parades & spectacles in Hong Kong, Tokyo, & Paris, France where he was Creative Vice-President & Directeur Spectak for the development of Disneyland Paris & the opening of Walt Disney Studios Paris.
As Creative Vice-President for Walt Disney Theatrical, Greg developed stage versions of Mary Poppins (British & U.S. versions), High School Musical: The Musical, Disney’s Tarzan & The Little Mermaid as well as touring versions of Aladdin, The Aristocats, Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland, 101 Dalmations, et. al..
Greg was often invited by the marketing & development departments of Walt Disney Companies to develop strategies for their high profile properties, including the Princess line as well as the Fairy characters & toys – multi-billion dollar businesses.
After nine years, Greg got a hankerin’ to strike out on his own & developed short-form comedies for Comedy Central’s MotherLode & MTV, science & reality series for Discovery Channel & TLC.
Among his many personal projects, an animation script he wrote is being produced by a former Simpson’s producer & a television sci-fi epic is in the works in Los Angeles.
